This Monday I came home from the NAF championship, tiered but satisfied. It was the 5:th tournament this spring and my Orkish Blood Bowl voodoo have really gotten better out of is.

In January I went to Doubt-IV in Umeå with the Orks and finished at 3:rd place out of 22 coaches with 7-2 in TD:s and 3 wins, 3 draws and 0 losses.

In March I arranged and participated in NärkeBowl 2013 in my own hometown. I played 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss and finished 6 (or 7!) out of 26.

At Easter I travelled to Gothenburg but played with my skaven team White Rat Trashers as Dragons borrowed my orks. It didn’t go that well, 2 wins and 2 losses. I really have to practice at my ratplay.

In the beginning of May we held a tournament in Malmö: Malmö BloodBowl Masters with 20 coaches. New orks on the block ended up in 9:th place with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses.

So came the end of May and the NAF championship, the real challenge. It was the first year for me and no other coaches from Sweden had prior years travelled to NAF of my knowledge. This year it was 9 Swedish coaches participating. That shows that the tournament scene in Sweden really is growing fast. 
I had a great stay at the venue, even thou the food was a little bit to English for my taste (come on NAF, give us a proper lunch next year, and a dinner with enough food to fill up) and played six close BloodBowl games, all against new opponents. 
My goal was pretty high set: place top 12 or best of the Swedes. I played agains Orcs, Undead, Amazon, Goblins, Chaos and Skaven, in that order. After the dust had settled I had 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss and the loss was off course against Geggster and his annoying Goblins, a game I screw up my chance to draw. I came in on place 9 out of 156 coaches, best of the Swedes, a result I am really happy with! For the full result visit talkfantasyfootball.org

As I have done this five tournament I also have kept a close eye on my fellow Swedish coaches to assess they play style and to get information to make a informed decision on the members of Team Sweden for Eurobowl. At the moment 5 coaches are chosen and 3 more plus 2 reserves will be decided after Low Cash Cup in Stockholm.

The Nun Shall Pass team are finally finished in the Amazon setting. I will complete the team with an Ogre (for the human variation) and some coaching staff at some point but for now they are done. The painting is very simple; I saw this bunch of models as a practise in human skin tones. I didn’t make a real effort with the cloth and just kept it black. Nothing fancy but good enough to play games with. The models from Shadowforge are nowdays on Eureka miniatures but I bought mine from Impact.

The New Orcs On the Block has gotten some more coaching staff; a hooligan and a ref that will work as reroll and turn counter.

I have some more orc staff waiting to be painted but they will have to wait for the EuroBowl to be completed. There are as always a lot of models for different project laying around and the following teams are on my to do list:

NAF:Lard

In the old Dalarna calander the year as you now as 2013 is actually the Year of the Orc. To celebrate this great festivity I have decided that I will play Orcs at EuroBowl in oktober. That was a hard desistion to make but nessesary as for me as the team leader of team Sweden I have to be very clear to all coaches in Sweden as of what blood Bowl teams team Sweden seeks. To get that great luck I need I painted the Ork soccermum model I had laying on my desk:

If we look at the 12 team types that placed best Eurobowl 2012 we find:

Out of those team I look to find eight coaches to represent Sweden. As I are an ok coach with two of them, Orcs and Wood elves the choice was easy. It is after all the year of the Orc.

That leaves 11 team types and seven coaches (and two reserves) to find. It will be some tough desitions if I will have to do them all alone. I need a sidekick, or a goblin, to help me. Last year was the year of the Halfling and in THAT movie we all got educated that Goblins speak with that nice English accent. As I only now one coach in Sweden that could do that the choice of my sidekick was simple (he was also the coaches who last Euro Bowl was the best of team Sweden coaches with 4,5/7 points in the tournament, he is experienced at international tournament, and Sweden NAF representative). Offcourse wanted he to play Orcs but after I pulled rank on him, he chooses the stunties instead. That is two out of eight coaches chosen. For teams we have left:

I have a third coach in mind. In Sweden we do not have that many tournaments but we have one coach who during 2011-2012 won 4 out of 5 he participated in. It is outstanding in so many ways. But most coaches will be picked after two qualifiers and a look at the tournament scene.

Tournaments in Sweden are there for you to give it your best and prove that you are the chosen few to fit the norm set for team Sweden. I hope that I can find seven coaches who all are clearly better than myself on this game. Here is where I will look:

To get myself into the orc way of playing Blood Bowl again, I will try to play as many tournaments with the orcs as possible. For Doubt this weekend I even have painted up a coach and a doc to follow mum around:

That exactly what my Wood elf team lacked. But offcourse, all you know that I still lack this important miniature: the heart of every ork team.

I have a headache... The final for Pennybridge Educated Blood Bowl League (PEBBLe) season 2 was this last Sunday and my Orc team Ork Illegal was in it and met Clashingbone Deadskins, a necromantic team that won the first season. The tension was high before the match as the road for the finals had been long and hard. Ork Illegal won 6, draw 1 and lost 1 during the ordinary season, and succeeded to win both the quarter- and the semifinal on pure aggression. The team that would face the Orks had an even better record with 8 won and 1 lost prior the final.

The final was very sunny and the play was fiercely tight as the Orc spent the first half defending against the necromantic push. With the orcs targeting the werewolves and ghouls and playing really disciplined without any mistakes or gaps in the formation the clashinbones really struggled to get down field. In the end of the first half they had to try a desperate play but the agility 4 wight fumbled the pass and the Orcs had done it, stopped the drive.

When the orcs ran into the field for second half and discovered that both the knocked out werewolves still was knocked they got there hopes really high. The second half was a 7 turn box grind, standard orc play and with the luck off nuffle the casualties kept rolling in and when the orcs scored the necromantic had four players in the dead and injury both.

The rest is history. Ork Illegal won over Clashingbone Deadskins with 1 - 0 and are the winners of season 2 of PEBBLe. I haven't been able to report about this until now because I just woke up after the party.

Som det var tänkt ställde orklaget upp på Gothcons bloodbowl turnering GothBowl. Detta var min första bloodbowl turnering på ett större konvent då jag var lätt nervös inför det hela. Då det var första gången för orkerna på en stor turnering valde laget att kalla sig "New orks on da block", snörde på sig kängorna, plockade fram knogjärnen och gick in i tureringen.

Match 1

I första matchen möte de Gotlands gengånare - några odöda som hade en mycket rutinerad coach. Trots att orkerna hade många turer på sig lyckades de inte göra några mål över huvud taget trots att de odöda bara var 7-8 kvar på plan i slutet av matchen. Framförallt berode det på en Ghoul som vägrade åka i backen. Förlust 0-1.

Match 2

I andra matchen var det ett annat odött lag som möttes - Return of the necromongers. Orkernas högre armour och diciplinerade bur spel belönade sig i längden och när slutsignalen blåstes hade de nya orkerna i kvarteret tagit sin första seger: 2-1. I de första två matcherna hade även orkernas styrka lämnat ett övertag i casulties. De hade gjort 6 och bara fått 2 mot sig.

   Orkernas försvar mot det första anfallet från The necromongers. Trotts att försvaret misslyckades på grund av en misslyckad bollplock vanns matchen.

Match 3

I den tredje matchen mötte orkerna ett människolag - panzer [någonting?]. Människorna fick bollen på sin planhalva och spelade mycket passivt utan att ens göra ett riktigt försök att ta sig igenom orkernas försvar. Det gick bra i några turer, sedan hade orkerna bollen och gjorde ett mål. Matchen slutade 3-0 och var aldrig jämn fast alla människorna och alla orker hölls sig från att bli skadade.

Match 4

Efter de första tre matcherna låg N.O.O.B på femte plats. Då de översta åtta skulle gå till semifinal visste orkeran att ett lika resultat skulle räcka för kvalificera sig vidare. Laget de skulle möta var Tungur knivur, ett norselag som inte förlorat någon match ännu utan hade två vinster och en oavgjort resultat. Matchen började med en ursinning attack från Tungur vilket gav ett mål i tur 5. Orkerna lyckades inte kvittera i 1:a halvlek. I andra halvlek gjorde de en långsam box som gjorde mål i tur 7. Tungur misslyckades sedan med sitt 2-turs försök och det var lika, men orkerna kom undan med hjärtat i halsgropen.

Efter grundspelet hade orkerna tagit sig till semifinal. De hamnade på plats 5 av 18 lag vilket var helt godkännt. 6 TD gjorda och 4 insläppta var också ok medan CAS var på 8-2, vilket är mycket bra. Semifinalen skulle dock vara dungoeon bowl något orkerna aldrig förut hört talas om...

Semi

Då det var dungeon bowl som gällde i de två semifinalerna skulle orkerna ner i underjorden och där möta ett norselag - Walkurenritt, ett khemri lag - Killabots och ett Goblinlag - Dirty Rotten Göteborgers. Första målet vinner. Orkerna fick första turen och sprang in i gångarna på jakt efter bollen.

Khemri lyckas hitta bollen nära sin egen ingång och orkerna är först på plats för att försöka ta den ifrån dem. Efter några turer är dock även de andra lagen där och sedan haverierar spelet in i en enda stor gröt - precis som orkerna vill ha det.

Ork blitzern Henry Rollins som i tidigare matcher fått en höjning i agility är väldigt nära att göra mål då han slår ner skelettet som hade bollen, springer sig fri och någon tur senare bara står en 2+ duck (utan reroll) från att vinna matchen. Goblinerna vinner sedan matchen efter en makalös serie av svåra upplockningar, duckningar, hand overs under en och samma tur och gick vidare till finalen där svenskar som steppar - ett wood elfs lag väntade att mötas. Sammantaget en mycket bra semifinal om 150 minuters spännande spel.

Följdverkan

Jag blev positivt överraskad av att delta i GothBowl. Det var otroligt kul och givande och jag tror jag måste börja planera för att ha frdigt ett nytt lag till nästa år. Kanske bör även andra turneringar se dessa orker försöka vinna hem priserna. En utmärkelse fick även spelare nummer 1 - rat scabies vilket gav ännu mera vatten på min kvarn. Antagligen för att det är den enda konventerade spelaren i hela laget.

Nästa gång jag riggar för foto så tar jag en bild på hela laget, plus starplayerna. Sedan skrev jag ju att det var psykers som stod på tur men då hade jag inte räknat med lockelsen av Quar. För några dagar sedan fick jag nämligen mitt paket från zombiesmith.com med 68 (!) Quar. Dom är nu alla rengjorda och sprayade vita och då min impulsivitet inte kunde hållas tillbaka så snabbmålade jag två testmodeller för att testa lite färgschema. Innan vi tittar på de bilderna så måste jag bara påpeka att mitt mål med dessa Quar är att måla dem snabbt, samt att testa att måla på en vit grundfärg. Vanligtvis gör jag inte så men det är nya tider, roliga tider. Här är i alla fall mitt första försök att snabbmåla två modeller på vitt, en royalist och en crusader:

Next time I rig for a photo-op I will take a picture of the entire team, plus the star-players. Earlier I wrote that next in line was psykers but then I had not counted on the lure of the Quar. A few days ago I received my package from the zombiesmith.com with 68 (!) Quar. They are now all cleaned and sprayed white and then my impulsiveness could not be held back, I just had to paint two test models for a little color scheme test. Before we look at the pictures I just have to declare that my goal with these Quar is to paint them quickly, and to try to paint on a white primer. Usually I do not like that but there are new times, fun times. This is my first attempt to speed paint two models in white, a Royalist and a Crusader:

Som ni ser har det gått snabbt. Färgen är lite kladdig, men poängen är mer att få en känsla för färgschemat än att göra det perfekt. Så vad tycker ni?

As you can see it has been done in a hurry. The color is a bit sticky, but the point is more to get a feel for the color scheme than to make it perfect. So what do you think?

Tänkte deltaga i Örebrospelförenings bloodbowl liga (http://ousf.bloggplatsen.se/2011/01/27/4462913-ousfs-blood-bowl-league/) i vår så jag dammade av mina gamla orker i mitt bloodbowllag Ork illegal. Dock min tidigare lathet hade inte alla spelare målade färdigt . Så i veckan som var gav jag mig i kast med att göra färdigt laget. Så utan mer pladder, låt mig presentera:

Som ni säkert ser är allt vanliga GW modeller utan några krussiduller. De två modellerna av Varag GC som blackorker är väl det enda speciella. Men GW:s Blood bowl lag har vissa brister . Bara 2 Blackorks, 3 blitzers och 1 thrower? Dessutom saknas det ju de vanligast använda starplayerna. För att råda bot på detta och få måla lite mer bloodbowl orker surfade jag på  weben och figurer från http://franarcilla.es.tl/MINIATURAS-28_32mm.htm och http://www.neomics.de/home inhandlades. Skulle jag köpa ett helt nytt orklag idag så skulle nog franarcillas köpas direkt. Neomics goblins lag kommer nog inskaffas så småningom för de är så fantastiska modeller med så mycket humor.

Detta är i alla fall förstärkningarna som förhoppningsvis kommer vara klara till ligans start den 19/2:

3 starplayers m s.weapons, 1 blitzer, 1 thrower och 1 blackork. Men jag hade ju redan 4 blackorks?

hmmm. Någon av modellerna kommer få vara Varag GC men om det blir denna enorma francilla ork eller om det blir den riktiga Varag, det får vi se.
